Reading:
Students will continue working with their back to school novel, “A Boy Called Bat” by Elana Arnold. Students will be reading chapters 13-22. While reading this novel, students will be analyzing the different characters, as well as, discussing the differences that each of us bring to the classroom. Students will continue to focus on character traits, both internal and external, as well as continuing to ask questions this week. Good readers ask questions throughout reading to begin to make connections at a deeper level. Writing: Students will be introduced to narrative writing. Students will need to bring a picture of themselves participating in an activity (vacation, camp, play date, playing a sport, etc.) to assist in generating ideas for a personal narrative. Students should bring in a picture by Tuesday, September 17th. Math: Students will continue Topic 8 in their Envision curriculum. Students will be solving subtraction problems, estimating sums and differences, and beginning to relate addition and subtraction to each other. Science: Students will begin their first science unit on weather and climate. Spelling: Students will begin spelling this week. The words all have a short-a vowel pattern.
