Reading: Non- Fiction Text Structures- After spending last week learning about Informational Text Structures, this week, students will identify them in various texts ; Problem/Solution, Cause and Effect, Compare and Contrast, Chronological Order and Description. All students have been given new AR Reading Goals based on their latest Star Reading Assessment. Please encourage your child to use time wisely during silent reading time in class and take quizzes and record on their logs regularly.
Writing: Young Authors We will be continuing to work all week drafting our stories. As your child about the specific story elements they're including as they should know them well at this point._young_authors_2019.pdf Cursive Handwriting: All students received a Handwriting Without Tears workbook a few weeks ago and have been diligently practicing both upper and lower case letters. This is the plan for the remainder of the school year. Math: Topic 14 - Solving Time, Capacity and Mass Problems. Please continue to encourage your child to keep up with both their multiplication and division facts. Wordly Wise Vocabulary: Students began Lesson 8 last week and will complete exercise E and the review by Thursday 5/2 and take the test on Friday 5/3 Social Studies: We will be finishing up out tour of the Midwest with "stops" in Iowa and Dodge City, Kansas. We studied the geography of the Midwest and Lewis and Clark's' exploration last week. Science: Information about Science Fair forthcoming.

Reading: Students will be working on their culminating Roald Dahl independent projects which will be introduced today. Ask your child about this as they have a choice of completing a combination of projects that total 100 points. Each group completed a Protagonists Profile last week and will be presenting to the class this week.
Math: We will be finishing up Unit 13 ( Using benchmarks to compare fractions) and have our final test this Wednesday. It will cover 13.1- 13.7 Writing: Continuing our work on Accomplished Latina Women, now that students have completed the research portion, they will begin working on their rough drafts as as complete the timeline and map portion of the project. Cursive Handwriting- each student has been given a Cursive Handwriting notebook. We will be practicing for the next few weeks.While often challenging, we want students to understand and appreciate the basics of reading and writing in cursive. Social Studies We will finish out unit on The SE Region of the US with 2 last stops: Gee's Bend, Alabama where we will learn about the art of quilting and Montgomery, Alabama- The Birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement. Students will have their culminating test on the SE Region on Wednesday. They will get to use their SS book to assist them. Grammar/Spelling- Quick check on prefixes and suffixes. Student swill write a paragraph (topic of their choice) where they will need to use and underline at least 5 of each correctly. Reading: We will finish up our Roald Dahl Literature Circles this week and complete a fun culminating project next week during IAR Testing. Students should be keeping up with Accelerated Reader during silent reading each day; reading within their assigned range and taking quizzes upon completion. Writing: In honor of Women's History Month, we will start a research/writing project on accomplished Latina women (Sonia Sotomayor, Ellen Ochoa, Frida Kahlo, Selina Quintanilla- Perez and Sandra Cisneros). Math; Line Plots and understanding and comparing Equivalent Fractions (Topic 13 lesson 1-3). Big push from now until the end of the year on mastering basic division facts. Please work with your child at home as well. Grammar- GUM: It's and Its' and A and An. Spelling- This weeks list will focus on prefixes re, un and dis. Science: Modeling Trait Inheritance
